Direct Part Marking (DPM)

What is DPM?

Direct part marking is the process of permanently marking a part or piece in the manufacture with a unique machine-readable code to track it throughout the product life cycle.

These marks are directly engraved or etched onto the product itself, making them permanently attached and significantly less prone to damage or removal compared to traditional adhesive barcode labels, which can peel or fade over time; this ensures reliable identification throughout the product lifecycle

Key points about DPM barcodes:

  • Durability:
Can withstand harsh environments, including extreme temperatures, chemicals, and mechanical stress due to being directly marked on the product surface.

  • Traceability:
Enables accurate tracking of individual components throughout the manufacturing process and product lifespan.

  • Reduced errors:
Eliminates the risk of mislabeling or lost labels, leading to improved data accuracy.

  • Applications:
Widely used in industries like automotive, medical devices, electronics where parts need to be reliably identified under demanding conditions
